connections of Taqi with bin Laden. After the announcement of the
election results Rugova promised to make public the evidences for the
terrorist activity of its political opponent.

The “friendship” between Taqi and bin laden has begun in 1996.
According to the sources of the daily, in the period 1996-2001 bin
Laden has invested some USD 200 M in activities, related to different
criminal deals in Kosovo.

Story of the Day 2001-10-24       Interpol has information that the Albanian terrorists have links with Al Qaida organization and its leader Osama Bin Laden, London-based newspaper the Independent reads. The Independent reports that Interpol’s investigation team was claiming that Osama Bin Laden was related to the Albanian criminal gangs, which have wide network of trafficking in weapons and people, prostitution and racketeering throughout Europe. Interpol also has information that recently people from the Albanian criminal circles met with leaders of the Algerian terrorist organisations. The Albanian police reported that Osama Bin Laden was also present at that meeting. Following five years of United Nations control and billions of dollars of international aid, Kosovo is a lawless region “owned” by the Albanian mafia. It is characterized by continuing ethnic cleansing and subject to increasing infiltration by al-Qaida-linked Muslim jihadists, according to a whistleblower interviewed by Cybercast News Service.

The U.N.’s repeated failure to act on received intelligence has allowed illegal paramilitary groups to flourish and engage in terrorist attacks aimed at destabilizing regional governments in the Balkans, said Thomas Gambill, a former security chief with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), self-described as the world’s largest regional security agency.

Albanian Mafia Flourishes

At the same briefing, Gambill said he tried to explain the regional mafia structure; however, U.S. and Russian delegates in the audience complained about the content of Gambill’s speech. As a result, he said, OSCE headquarters in Pristina sent a message to Gambill’s regional superiors with the message, “Shut Tom up.”

“You couldn’t get up in front of meetings and say, ‘We’ve lost control of [Kosovo], the mafia controls it,’” said Gambill. “But they do. They run the damn place.”

Gambill cited OSCE data that showed 42 mafia leaders had moved into Kosovo in the wake of the NATO bombing in order to set up criminal organizations. They continued to thrive despite efforts to establish mature law enforcement operations in the province, he said.

“Drug smuggling, counterfeiting, weapons and human trafficking were all booming when I was there,” said Gambill. He also alleged that high-level mafia leaders are in senior political positions.

“Good cops,” who want to target the corruption are “under threat,” said Gambill, adding that the Albanian mafia maintains ties with Russian, Serbian, Croatian and Italian mafia organizations to further their common agendas.

Gambill also warned his U.N. superiors that the newly formed paramilitary group, the Albanian National Army, was “highly dangerous and skilled” and operating in Kosovo as well as northwestern Macedonia. But those warnings, he said, were also met with disbelief.

Within months, the Albanian National Army was taking credit for terrorist attacks, prompting the U.N. to acknowledge the group’s existence.

Now Kosovo has entered what Gambill calls “The Fifth Phase,” characterized by attacks against the United Nations mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) itself. A September warning from UNMIK to staff members warns, “Before you turn on your vehicle, inspect it all around, to see if anything is unusual or suspicious.” The warning followed the blowing up of an UNMIK vehicle.

“UNMIK Out!” reads the graffiti seen on many buildings in Kosovo.

A field officer currently working with the U.N. Mission in the Kosovo area spoke with Cybercast News Service on condition of anonymity. After noting that the explosives used by al-Qaida terrorists in the March 2004 Madrid bombing attacks had come from the Balkans, he stated: “I sit here watching special patrol groups surveying and doing nothing. How many more people will die whilst terrorists rest and recuperate here in the not-so moderate-Muslim regions of the Balkans theatre?”

“The cat and mouse game is coming to an end,” the field officer noted. “Kosovo is saturated with extremists so NATO [may] pull out before it all blows up in their faces. War on Terror! [It’s] more like support [of] terror!”

“My biggest concern has always been the incursion of radical Islam into the area,” said Gambill. “They’re making preparations in Macedonia for terrorist attacks against internationals if Kosovo is not granted independence.”

If the United Nations recommends against independence, Gambill said, it will spur the Saudis to increase their involvement in the region. “They’ve got the money, they’ve got the power. They’ll remind Kosovars that they are their true friends. And they’ll help the extremists fight and prepare terrorist attacks against internationals and even NATO troops stationed there,” Gambill told Cybercast News Service.

Henry Shelton. Clinton also supports the idea, telling Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Henry Shelton, “You know, it would scare the sh_t out of al-Qaeda if suddenly a bunch of black ninjas rappelled out of helicopters into the middle of their camp.” However, Shelton says he wants “nothing to do” with such an idea. Before September 11, 2001: US Military’s Special Forces Never Used Against Al-Qaeda Before 9/11

The US military never uses its elite units to hunt bin Laden or any other al-Qaeda leaders. US Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) is said to have less than 1000 operatives, mainly Navy Seals and Army Delta Force, which are the most trained and qualified personnel in the US for hunting fugitives. Professor Richard Shultz at Tufts University’s Fletcher School will be commissioned by the Pentagon shortly after 9/11 to research why such special forces were not used before 9/11 to hunt bin Laden or other al-Qaeda leaders. He will find that US military leaders always said they needed better intelligence. They did a lot of planning but took no action. Shultz will say, “It’s your strike force, and yet it was never used once for its primary mission before Sept. 11.” JSOC forces will have more successes after 9/11, including playing roles in the capture of Saddam Hussein in 2003 and the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in 2006 (see June 8, 2006). [In 1993, Thaci became a member of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army), who according to BBC soon resorted to “the most successful guerrilla movement in modern times” and/or a terrorist organization that reveals to the world the “direct connection between Al Qaeda and Albanians”. Parallel with the foundation of the “rebel guerrillas”, Thaci (war name “Snake”) founded and organized the Drenica Group that soon rose as the dominant and best known criminal organization of the west-Balkans. It concerned itself with (and still does) weapons smuggling, heroin, cocaine and cigarettes, automobile theft, prostitution and other profitable jobs that are common for mafia groups. “Drenica” soon made connections with key organizations in Albania, the Czech Republic, and Macedonia, creating a large-scale criminal organization, which according to Can Karpat’s report, was sealed with a marriage between Thaci’s sister and Sejdij Bajrush, one of the most infamous leaders of the Albanian mafia.

The first terrorist act that was directly blamed on the current premier of independent Kosovo happened on May 25, 1993. This is when Thaci, together with Rafet Rama, Jakup Nuri, Sami Ljustku and Ilijaz Kadriju, attacked the Serbian police at the railway crossing “Glogovac”, about which the respected Jane’s Information Group reports. During the attack, two police officers were killed, and another five were injured.

This is according to Italian journalist Roberto Saviano, the author of the bestseller book “Gomorra” - a look at the Naples mafia, that has already been made into an award-winning movie.

Saviano said in an interview that the Albanian mafia in Kosovo chiefs “dream” about turning the province into “a European Colombia”.

“In order to achieve this, they wish to genetically engineer a type of coca plant that would grow in Kosovo’s climate. In this way, the Albanian mafia would have a monopoly over the cocaine trade. They need 20 years to achieve this,” he said, and added that “then, Kosovo will without a doubt become the new Colombia”.

Saviano has spent the past three years living under round-the-clock police protection, with the crime families sending out messages that he would be punished for writing the book, which he based on his own investigations.

Meanwhile, western newspapers write that a year after Kosovo’s unilateral independence proclamation, the expectations of its leaders and people have not been met.

WASHINGTON, United States — Michael Braun, chief of operations of the Drug Enforcement Administration, accuses the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of involvement in drug trafficking and other international organised crime networks, Turkish media reported on Sunday (July 20th). Organisations such as the PKK, which receive financing from drug trafficking as well as from their involvement in terrorism, could be defined as “hybrid”, Braun said on Friday, during a forum on drug trafficking and Middle Eastern terrorist groups at the Washington Institute.

In other news, three German hostages whom the PKK released on Sunday are heading home, Turkish media reported on Monday. The climbers, abducted by PKK militants on July 8th in the eastern province of Agri, arrived at an airport in eastern Turkey accompanied by a German delegation. They are expected to fly to Ankara and then board a nonstop flight to Munich. According to a report in the Sunday Herald, 11 April 2010, Lewis Rodden appeared at a Labour Party election fundraiser for Jim Murphy, who is Gordon Brown’s Secretary of State for Scotland.

At the fundraiser, former defence secretary John Reid, of the Labour party, was the keynote speaker.

John Reid’s son married the daughter of notorious gangster Ronnie Campbell. (Home Secretary Reid’s father-in-law arrested in £280000 drugs bust …)

Labour councillor and Strathclyde (Glasgow) Police Authority member Betty Cunningham is ‘on first-name terms’ with Lewis Rodden.

In 2002, drug dealer Justin McAlroy attended one of the Scottish Labour party’s Red Rose dinners.

McAlroy, who was shot dead within days of attending the event, was yards away from former First Minister Jack McConnell and John Reid.

Reportedly, Jack McConnell’s wife’s department, and Jack McConnell’s party organisation in Glasgow, gave Eddie Lyons, an alleged ‘gangster’, £1.4m in public funds over 10 years to run a community centre used by children.

Michael Howard was home secretary at the time when the Baybasins came to the UK.

According to the Guardian, members of an international crime gang were allowed to come to Britain because their leader had links to Customs & Excise.

The evidence for this came out at an immigration appeals tribunal.

The Baybasin Cartel, a Kurdish gang, controlled up to 90% of the heroin which entered the UK.

Its bosses settled in the UK in the mid-1990s.

Gang members were involved in protection rackets and extortion in the UK, and were linked to up to 25 murders.

The gang’s members were allowed to move from Turkey to London, allegedly after their leader, Huseyin Baybasin, agreed to tell Customs investigators what he knew about the involvement of senior Turkish politicians and officials in the international heroin trade.

Reportedly, Baybasin was encouraged by Customs to come to the UK and arrived via Gibraltar in either late 1994 or early 1995.

He first met Customs officers in a hotel near Tower Bridge, London.

Having come to the UK, the Baybasin Cartel ran their vast drug trafficking operation from London.

They and their relatives persuaded a number of politicians to support their attempts to obtain British travel documents.

Among those who agreed to help was Tony McNulty, a former immigration minister, who wrote a number of letters on behalf of Baybasin’s wife after her husband was arrested in the Netherlands.

Baybasin, 49, is now serving a life sentence in a Dutch jail.

The Taliban had reduced the opium crop to precisely nil. I would not advocate their methods for doing this, which involved lopping bits, often vital bits, off people. The Taliban were a bunch of mad and deeply unpleasant religious fanatics. But one of the things they were vehemently against was opium.

That is an inconvenient truth that our spin has managed to obscure. Nobody has denied the sincerity of the Taliban’s crazy religious zeal, and they were as unlikely to sell you heroin as a bottle of Johnnie Walker.

They stamped out the opium trade, and impoverished and drove out the drug warlords whose warring and rapacity had ruined what was left of the country after the Soviet war.
That is about the only good thing you can say about the Taliban; there are plenty of very bad things to say about them. But their suppression of the opium trade and the drug barons is undeniable fact.

Sarajevo is experiencing a tourism boom and officials believe the global recession might be contributing to the trend, raising the profile of the city’s “diversified offers and reasonable prices”.Official statistics show that over 180,000 tourists from 114 countries visited the Bosnian capital last year, or 7.7 per cent more than in 2008.

“The latest statistics are also highly encouraging and we have every reason to believe that this year will be even more successful,” Munevera Hodzic from the Sarajevo tourism board told Balkan Insight.

Hodzic said that over 21,000 tourists had visited Sarajevo in the first two months of 2010, or 12 per cent more than in the same period last year.

An increasing number of potential visitors were inquiring about tourism in Sarajevo since it was named among the top ten best cities to visit in the Lonely Planet guide’s “Best in Travel 2010”, she added.

The book’s editor described Sarajevo as a “neatly contained and walkable city…(which) moves to the rhythm of an Austrian waltz with a Slavic lilt and a Turkish flourish in its architecture.”

However, Hodzic said that despite the city’s wealth of historic and winter sport sites, its top attraction last year was the 20 metres remaining from the 800-metre-long tunnel dug under the Sarajevo airport during Bosnia’ 1992-95 war…………………..

UN Report: Criminals, Terrorists or Politicians? In Kosovo-Metohija, all Three.

And in its 2005 situation report, the Council of Europe said:

“Ethnic Albanian criminal groups are reportedly responsible for a large part of the wholesale distribution of heroin in Europe… Ethnic Albanian criminal groups pose a significant threat to the EU because of their involvement in drug trafficking, THB [trafficking in human beings] and money laundering.”

“Ethnic Albanian Criminal Groups” are the only national group discussed in the 2006 Europol [European department of Interpol] publication The Threat from Organized Crime:

“Ethnic Albanian organized crime groups have established themselves in many European Union Member States and beyond… ethnic Albanian crime groups are found to extend their role from facilitators to achieving full control in certain crime areas. They adapt without difficulties to local or changing situations.”
No “Freedom Fighters”, Just Criminals and Thugs

On the preceding pages, the latest Drugs & Crime UN report offers a rarely accurate analysis of the situation among the ethnic Albanians (both next door to Serbia, in neighboring Albania, and in Serbia itself, mainly in the southern Kosovo province), which led to formation of the Albanian terrorist KLA (UCK) and to the terrorist attacks in Serbia — an unusually honest glimpse at the root-causes of Albanian insurrection and occupation of part of Serbia, impossible to find in the tons of worthless junk produced daily by the Western mainstream media.

The following excerpt effectively dismantles the pompous claims of heroic “struggle for freedom and independence” and disingenuous references to the “self-determination” of an ethnic group which has already exercised its right to self-determination with the formation of state of Albania.

No, it has nothing to do with “freedom”, “independence” or “self-determination”, it is all about illicit trade, crime without punishment, lawlessness, thuggery and insatiable greed.

UNODC on human trafficking and migrant smuggling

Human trafficking is the acquisition of people by improper means such as force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them.

Smuggling migrants involves the procurement for financial or other material benefit of illegal entry of a person into a State of which that person is not a national or resident.

Virtually every country in the world is affected by these crimes. The challenge for all countries, rich and poor, is to target the criminals who exploit desperate people and to protect and assist victims of trafficking and smuggled migrants, many of whom endure unimaginable hardships in their bid for a better life.

As the only United Nations entity focusing on the criminal justice element of these crimes, the work that UNODC does to combat human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants is underpinned by the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols on trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling.

 

 

UNODC on money-laundering and countering the financing of terrorism

The Law Enforcement, Organized Crime and Anti-Money-Laundering Unit of UNODC is responsible for carrying out the Global Programme against Money-Laundering, Proceeds of Crime and the Financing of Terrorism, which was established in 1997 in response to the mandate given to UNODC through the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988. The Unit’s mandate was strengthened in 1998 by the Political Declaration and the measures for countering money-laundering adopted by the General Assembly at its twentieth special session, which broadened the scope of the mandate to cover all serious crime, not just drug-related offences.

The broad objective of the Global Programme is to strengthen the ability of Member States to implement measures against money-laundering and the financing of terrorism and to assist them in detecting, seizing and confiscating illicit proceeds, as required pursuant to United Nations instruments and other globally accepted standards, by providing relevant and appropriate technical assistance upon request.

Cable Ties Kissinger to Chile Controversy

WASHINGTON (AP) — As secretary of state, Henry Kissinger canceled a U.S. warning against carrying out international political assassinations that was to have gone to Chile and two neighboring nations just days before a former ambassador was killed by Chilean agents on Washington’s Embassy Row in 1976, a newly released State Department cable shows.

Whether Kissinger played a role in blocking the delivery of the warning against assassination to the governments of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay has long been a topic of controversy.

Discovered in recent weeks by the National Security Archive, a non-profit research organization, the Sept. 16, 1976 cable is among tens of thousands of declassified State Department documents recently made available to the public.

In 1976, the South American nations of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay were engaged in a program of repression code-named Operation Condor that targeted those governments’ political opponents throughout Latin America, Europe and even the United States.

Based on information from the CIA, the U.S. State Department became concerned that Condor included plans for political assassination around the world. The State Department drafted a plan to deliver a stern message to the three governments not to engage in such murders.

In the Sept. 16, 1976 cable, the topic of one paragraph is listed as ”Operation Condor,” preceded by the words ”(KISSINGER, HENRY A.) SUBJECT: ACTIONS TAKEN.” The cable states that ‘’secretary declined to approve message to Montevideo” Uruguay ”and has instructed that no further action be taken on this matter.”

”The Sept. 16 cable is the missing piece of the historical puzzle on Kissinger’s role in the action, and inaction, of the U.S. government after learning of Condor assassination plots,” Peter Kornbluh, the National Security Archive’s senior analyst on Chile, said Saturday. Kornbluh is the author of ”The Pinochet File: A Declassified Dossier on Atrocity and Accountability.”

Jessica LePorin, a spokeswoman for Kissinger, says that the former secretary of state dealt many years ago with questions concerning the cancellation of the warnings to the South American governments and had no further comment on the matter.

Kissinger has dealt with the issue indirectly. Writing in defense of Kissinger in 2004 when the issue arose, William D. Rogers, Kissinger’s former assistant secretary of state, said Kissinger ”had nothing to do with” a Sept. 20, 1976 cable instructing that the warnings to Chile, Argentina and Uruguay be canceled. Rogers died in 2007.

”You can instruct” the U.S. ambassadors ”to take no further action” on the subject of Operation Condor, said the Sept. 20 cable by Harry Shlaudeman, assistant secretary of state for Inter-American affairs, to Shlaudeman’s deputy.

The next day, on Sept. 21, 1976, agents of Chilean Gen. Augusto Pinochet planted a car bomb and exploded it on a Washington, D.C., street, killing both former Ambassador Orlando Letelier, and an American colleague, Ronni Karpen Moffitt. Letelier was one of the most outspoken critics of the Pinochet government……………..
