Man bildet die Mafia aus, damit Geldwäsche und Drogen Netze, besser für die Monte- und Russen Mafia über Montenegro erfolgreicher operieren kann. Erzbischof Ieronymos droht: “Unsere Geduld ist aufgebraucht” - bisher war Klerus von Abgaben befreit

Vom Sparpaket der griechischen Regierung ist auch die mächtige orthodoxe Kirche nicht ausgenommen. Laut einem Gesetz, das am Mittwoch im Parlament beschlossen werden soll, muss der Klerus künftig Steuern zahlen.

Erbt die Kirche in Zukunft Immobilien, muss sie 20 Prozent des Wertes an den Staat abführen. Fünf bzw. zehn Prozent Steuer sollen auf Sach- und Geldspenden erhoben werden. Auch auf die Einkünfte der Kirche aus ihrem Grundbesitz, für die bisher nur ein Prozent Steuer bezahlt wurde, wird eine zwanzigprozentige Besteuerung festgelegt. Außerdem müssen Diözesen und selbständige Klöster ihre Buchführung offenlegen, die bisher kaum geprüft wurde.

Ieronymos will gegen Steuerpflicht klagen

Ieronymos, Erzbischof von Athen und damit Oberhaupt der griechischen Kirche, reagierte empört: “Unsere Geduld ist aufgebraucht”, sagte er in einem Interview mit der Zeitschrift “Real News”. Er droht mit dem Gang vor griechische und europäische Gerichte, da das Steuergesetz seiner Meinung nach der Verfassung widerspricht.

Er bestritt, dass die Kirche über Millionen verfüge: “Kommt und zeigt uns, wo dieses Geld ist.” Auch der Bischof von Thessaloniki, wo die Religionsgemeinschaft besonders viele Immobilien besitzt, spricht von einem “Schlag ins Gesicht der Kirche”. Bei der Bevölkerung kommt die Ausweitung der Steuerpflicht hingegen gut an: in Umfragen geben 80 Prozent an, ihrer Meinung nach sei der höhere Klerus korrupt.

Laut einer im Vorjahr von der Zeitung Katimerini veröffentlichten Studie machte die orthodoxe Kirche 2008 sieben Millionen Euro Gewinn. 20 Millionen Umsatz brachte die Vermietung von Immobilien, 4,5 Millionen warfen sonstige Investitionen ab. Die Kirche hält einen 150-Millionen-Euro-Anteil an der Nationalbank, in deren Vorstand ein Bischof sitzt.

Armee stellt Chauffeure

Auch die Regierung wird vom Erzbischof von Athen angelobt. Der Staat zahlt die Gehälter der Priester, und viele Bischöfe haben einen Chauffeur, der ihnen von der Armee zur Verfügung gestellt wird.

Die orthodoxe Kirche Griechenlands wird immer wieder von Skandalen erschüttert: 2005 wurde der Bischof von Attika wegen Geldwäschevorwürfen abgesetzt, laut “Financial Times” führte der Bischof von Korinth Spenden auf private Konten ab und der Bischof von Thessalien pflegte enge Kontakte zur albanischen Drogenmafia.

(Washington Post) Nearly three months after an al-Qaeda double agent
obliterated an important CIA team in Afghanistan, veteran spies remain
agitated over the incident and the agency’s seeming inability to fix
longtime operational flaws.

The latest eruption over the Dec. 30 incident that killed seven CIA
officers and contractors in a powerful suicide fireball comes from Robert
Baer, the former clandestine operations officer who has been pillorying his
former employer in books, articles and television interviews since shortly
the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But other agency veterans have been weighing
in as well, and increasingly, on the record.

Writing in the April issue of GQ magazine,(b) Baer depicts a spy agency
where “the operatives’ sun started to set” in the 1990s and never
recovered. So it was that the spy agency sent an analyst to do an
operative’s work in Khost, in desolate southeast Afghanistan, last year.
Traditionally, the CIA’s station chiefs, or top agency officer in a
country, and its base chiefs, deployed in outlying offices, were veteran
case officers, or seasoned spy handlers.

‘Jihad Jane’ On Trial For Terror Recruitment

(SkyNews) Colleen LaRose appeared in a Pennsylvania courtroom for the first
time to face accusations of conspiracy to provide material support to
terrorists.

The 46-year-old allegedly sought out male and female recruits, raised money
and agreed to murder a Swedish cartoonist. The indictment against her says
she pledged that “only death will stop me”. The petite blonde, who had her
hair in dreadlocks and a ponytail, smiled and appeared relaxed during the
10-minute hearing.

The prosecution alleges that LaRose recruited women who had passports and
the ability to travel to and around Europe in support of violent jihad.

Defense official says Afghan program was authorized

(Washington Post) Michael D. Furlong, the senior Defense Department
employee under investigation for allegedly running an unauthorized
intelligence-gathering operation in Afghanistan, says his now-suspended
program was fully authorized by top U.S. military commanders. 

According to Furlong, the program, which began in late 2008, was requested
by Army Gen. David D. McKiernan, the former top U.S. commander in
Afghanistan, and approved by the U.S. Central Command.

In an interview with the San Antonio Express News published Thursday, he
said McKiernan asked him to provide information “that would enhance our
understanding of the environment” in the Afghanistan and Pakistan war
zones. He denied misusing any U.S. contract funds.

The program was shut down and an investigation begun by the Defense
Department’s inspector general late last year after complaints by the CIA
and a finding by senior officials under the new Afghanistan commander, Gen.
Stanley A. McChrystal, that Furlong had stepped outside the boundaries of
his contract and the law and “didn’t want to operate within the constraints
of how we do business,” according to a U.S. military official familiar with
the situation who was not authorized to discuss it on the record.
