“As long as Bosnia’s War Crimes Prosecution is dominated by David Schwendiman [PDF], not a single Bosnian Muslim general will find himself in the docket, regardless of the evidence proving their responsibility for war crimes committed by the Bosnian Muslim forces against the Serb population,” Dževad Galijašević, member of the South-Eastern Europe’s Expert Team for the War Against Terrorism and Organized Crime, told Banja Luka daily Fokus.

Born into the Muslim faith, former mayor of Maglaj Municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina Galijašević is one of the very few Bosnian Muslims willing to openly speak about the wide scale war crimes committed by the Izetbegović’s troops in former Yugoslavia.

Author of three books, including The Era of Terrorism in Bosnia and Hercegovina, Galijašević asserts that Alija Izetbegović’s Islamic Declaration “laid the cornerstone for the mujahidin to come to wartime and postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

He stresses that the current Islamic political leadership of Bosnia are the “same people who during the war sent pleas to the Taliban and other Islamic regimes to send their best jihad fighters to Bosnia to fight the Christians”. After the war has ended, the response of these leaders to anyone who would bring up the fact of war crimes committed by the Bosnian Muslims is that only the foreign fighters are responsible for war crimes on the Muslim side and none of the natives.

This, says Galijašević, couldn’t be further from the truth.

Speaking to Fokus reporter, Galijašević said that commander of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Muslim army, general Atif Dudaković is the prime example of the double standards practiced by the Bosnian Muslim leadership and foreign officials running Bosnian war crimes prosecution department.

Dudaković is accused of war crimes committed in the region of the municipalities of Bihać, Sanski Most, Bosanski Petrovac and Prijedor, and (together with Alija Izetbegović, Croat war leader Franjo Tuđman and Croat general Ante Gotovina) for war crimes committed during the joint Croat-Muslim ethnic cleansing Operation “Storm” in 1995, on the territory of the municipalities of Jajince, Šipovo, Mrkonjić Grad and parts of the municipalities of Banja Luka, Ključ and Drvar.

Izetbegović’s general, trumpeted as a “revered wartime commander”, stands accused of grievous war crimes which include wanton destruction of Serb-populated villages, execution of the civilians, murder of the Bosnian Muslim negotiators (non-allied with Izetbegović’s war party) and torture and execution of the POWs (on a number of occasions, many of which have been videotaped and preserved on some 30 DVDs).

He is also responsible of running one of the Bosnian death camps for Bosnian Serbs, Croats and Muslims non-allied with Izetbegović’s jihadists, where prisoners were regularly tortured, mutilated and executed.

NATO court in Hague was not interested in processing high ranking Bosnian Muslim wartime commander for the crimes committed by one of the favored parties in Yugoslav civil wars. As for the Bosnian war crimes prosecution, even as the evidence of Dudaković’s atrocities kept piling up, it limited itself to indicting Dudaković’s subordinate in 2007 — based on the same video recordings that are incriminating Dudaković — but not his savage commander. Instead, Sarajevo prosecution allegedly “opened an investigation” of Dudaković’s crimes, which hasn’t moved an inch in more than two years, leaving Dudaković free to roam Bosnia and enjoy his life of impunity.

In addition to Dudaković, the case of general Sakib Mahmuljin, wartime commander of the Third Corps of Bosnian Muslim army which incorporated the atrocious El Mujahideen unit (El Mujahid, in some sources) also remains open, Galijašević said, adding the Hague Tribunal had established that El Mujahideen unit, comprised of thousands of foreign mercenaries and responsible for countless atrocities against the Serb and Croat population in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was under direct command and control of the Bosnian Muslim Third Corps, led by Mahmuljin.

“In its verdict to Enver Hadžihasanović and Amir Kubura, the Hague Tribunal determined El Mujahideen unit was an integral part of the Bosnian Muslim army from 13 September 1993. Since then, the El Mujahideen unit was a legal military formation in the composition of the Bosnian Muslim army, operating within its Third Corps. This implies full responsibility of Sakib Mahmuljin for all the war crimes committed by this unit, some of which were documented in the verdict issued to Rasim Delić [wartime commander of Main Staff of the Bosnian Muslim army],” Galijašević said.

He added that Internal Affairs Ministry of the Serbian Republic in Bosnia processed a number of cases in which Sakib Mahmuljin’s direct responsibility for these atrocities was proven beyond the reasonable doubt.

According to Galijašević, the key person responsible for freezing the processing of war crimes committed by the Bosnian Muslims is David Schwendiman, former Utah Assistant United States Attorney, currently employed at Sarajevo War Crimes Prosecution Department.

If it wasn’t for the independent sources of information most of the world would never have a chance to learn the truth about anything, especially when high NATO representatives embarrass themselves beyond repair by being caught in series of lies, such as British lord Paddy Ashdown while testifying against late President Milosevic in the Kangaroo Court in Hague.

Not surprisingly, highly acclaimed BBC reporters were satisfied to limit their “reporting” to singing praises to his lying lordship, while completely ignoring the other, much more important half of the story — the part in which Ashdown’s testimony was ripped into shreds. On the other hand, the sources that don’t get paid to inform us, went ahead with the entire report, including the proof of Ashdown’s perjury.

In short, Paddy Ashdown testified that he was no less than an eyewitness to Serbian “atrocities” in Kosovo strife. While under oath he went on to tell that, at the time Serbian army fought with terrorist KLA in Kosovo (during NATO bombardment of Serbia), he was in village Gegaj in Albania, near Serbian Kosovo border, from where he saw, with his own eyes, Serbian troops burning villages, killing everyone in their way, including the scores of Albanian civilians. A devastating testimony indeed, when no other than a high NATO official, a British lord, diplomat and a supposed gentleman swears he was an eyewitness to Serbian “war crimes.”

However, when President Milosevic’s defense started, among his witnesses was General Bozidar Delic, Serbian war hero whose unit was fighting KLA in Kosovo at the time Ashdown claims he saw what he saw. This in itself wouldn’t be the problem for Ashdown (‘your word against mine’ is how the Hague Inquisition basically operates), except for the fact that General Delic also happens to be a topography expert (a professor of topography at the Military Academy, to be exact). With few maps, markers and a plain ruler, General Delic has shattered Ashdown’s testimony, proving without a doubt his lordship unashamedly lied on a witness stand and could not have seen any of what he says he saw.

Since the following excerpt from an interview with General Delic, as far as I know, isn’t available in English, I have translated the part that pertains to revealing abominable lies of Paddy Ashdown, NATO, KFOR and UNMIK stationed in Kosovo and the lies of the Hague Inquisition. The interviewer is Boris Aleksic. Enjoy!

General, you have recently testified in The Hague. You have prepared ample documentation about crimes committed on Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

I knew I would testify in The Hague back in 2002, because that was the first time Mr. Milosevic’s assistants contacted me, asking if I would be willing to testify about what went on before and during NATO’s aggression on our country in my zone of responsibility. I confirmed that I will testify. Meanwhile, the prosecution called me to testify about the crimes of the so-called UCK (KLA). The Army Headquarters and the Ministry of Defense gave their consent and I started preparing the documentation for my testimony with pleasure. I was preparing to testify as an expert witness for the prosecution against terrorist KLA from the end of 2002 and during the entire year of 2003. I have collected around 3,000 pages of documents, the complete organizational/formation structure of terrorists’ command and units up from battalion level in the sectors of Pastrik and Dukadjini.

Towards the end of April 2005 all of the documents were properly classified and organized and I was ready. On June 12 I went to Hague as the witness for Mr. Milosevic’s defense and testified for the first time on July 17, 2005 until the summer break. In the meantime Mr. Seselj testified, which I hoped for, since I knew the prosecution will make an effort to try to discredit me with some new details, and that’s exactly what happened. On the second occasion I spent 19 days in Hague, testifying during 4 days. In total, I spent 63 days in Hague.

Your testimony has attracted massive interest in public and it is still the subject of conversation. You have used the scientific method to prove that prosecution and Tribunal are using falsified evidence and false witnesses. After your testimony Paddy Ashdown was replaced at the position of the EU’s High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. You have cancelled out Ashdown’s testimony about the alleged crimes which, according to the prosecution, Serbian forces committed in Kosovo and Metohija, and which Ashdown supposedly saw looking through the mountains and hundred-year old forests?

From his position Ashdown supposedly saw the village Junik. Yet, whoever has the most basic knowledge about that area knows Ashdown’s claims are entirely impossible. Junik mountains are exceeding the Kosovo and Metohija territory by the few hundred meters, while village Junik is 7 kilometers further away, below those mountains.

How did the prosecution react?

They immediately requested detailed explanation. I told them that I was born there and that I taught topography at the [Military] Academy. Than they asked me to present the disputed area graphically, with visibility zones clearly marked. They wanted me to finish everything during the twenty-minute break. Since I had no maps and no tools, I had to tell them I cannot finish the task sooner than by the next day. I naively believed I was helping them, but the prosecution was only looking for ways to discredit me.

During the break they brought some 50 maps. There were all sorts of them - black and white, in color, originals and copies. After examining their maps I told them neither one is good. They were gloating over my conclusion, since now they could say “they are good to everyone else, except for you.” I replied that all of the maps are lacking the basic information which any barely decent map has to have, like ratios for example. Those are the most basic, elementary rules of topography. The maps also didn’t have any topographic shapes marked either, and so on.

Finally, I picked two maps. I asked for a ruler and markers so I could do what was requested in the afternoon.

You are saying that Tribunal, which has the most technologically advanced equipment and which spends millions of dollars annually, gave you the maps without information about ratios and without topographic shapes? And you didn’t even get to use a computer for the work they requested from you?

I was given the most modest implements only. But even that was sufficient. I marked everything visible from the point given by Ashdown, from Albania. In the meantime, they informed me about the new statement by Ashdown, according to which, this time around, he was further to the south.

He changed his statement?

Yes, and that won’t be the only time. I marked the visible areas on the map. The next day I took it to the tribunal telling them I’m done, although the maps I had to work with were rather poor. [Prosecutor] Nice was enraged and literally ripped the maps out of my hands.

One has to wonder about the country in which State Prosecutor rips evidence out of witness’ or expert’s hands. Was apparently calm Nice showing his true nature?

I thought the gesture is illustrative — it showed the amount of respect they had for me. When I told them the maps I was given do not contain most of what they should, but I have finished my work anyway, he simply ripped them out of my hands. He was eager to show my work to ..

Belgrad/Banja Luka - Der in Banja Luka ansässige TV-Sender “ATV” hat am heutigen Mittwoch neue Aufnahmen von Kriegsverbrechen an Serben ausgestrahlt. Dabei ist zu sehen, wie Ramiz Delalic, ein Kommandant der bosniakischen (moslemischen) Armee, die Tötung von Serben, Vergewaltigungen und die Zerstörung von Dörfern anordnet, berichteten Medien in Belgrad und Banja Luka.

“Tötet alles, was ihr vor euch findet. Ich erlaube und ordne es an, dass der Feind mit allen Mitteln zerstört wird - mit Messern, Bomben, Hacken, Zähnen”, hört man Delalic demnach sagen. Auf die Frage eines Soldaten, ob sie auch vergewaltigen dürften, soll Delalic sagen: “Ihr habt das Recht auf alles”. Die Aufzeichnung stammt vom 16. April 1995. Ein bosnischer Moslem erzählt in dieser Dokumentation von grauenhaften Vergewaltigungen und anderen Kriegsverbrechen.

Fünftes Korps

Die Aufforderung zu Kriegsverbrechen richtete sich nicht nur gegen Serben, sondern auch gegen die Kämpfer von Fikret Abdic, dessen Einheiten gegen die Regierungstruppen des bosnischen Ex-Präsidenten Alija Izetbegovic kämpften. Delalic war Kommandant der 503. Brigade des Fünften Korps der Armee Bosnien-Herzegowinas. Der Fünfte Korps wird für viele Kriegsverbrechen verantwortlich gemacht.

Serbische Sender hatten bereits Anfang August Videos gezeigt, auf denen Kriegsverbrechen von bosnischen Moslems an Serben zu sehen sind. Unter anderem war der Kriegskommandant des bosniakischen Fünften Korps, General Ante Dudakovic, zu sehen und zu hören, wie er seinen Soldaten das Niederbrennen serbischer Dörfer im Westen Bosniens anordnete.

Delalic wurde bereits früher mit Kriegsverbrechen in Verbindung gebracht, etwa in der Ortschaft Grabovica bei Mostar. Im September 1993 wurden dort 33 kroatische Dorfbewohner, darunter Frauen, Kinder und ältere Menschen, von bosniakischen Truppen ermordet. Eine der beteiligten Einheiten soll unter seinem Kommando gestanden sein.

Delalic wurde im Frühjahr dieses Jahres in Sarajevo festgenommen. Bereits vor zwei Jahren wurde er wegen der Ermordung eines serbischen Hochzeitgasts im unmittelbaren Stadtzentrum von Sarajevo am 1. März 1992 angeklagt. Nikola Gardovic, der Vater des Bräutigams, wurde im historischen Stadtviertel Bascarsija aus nächster Nähe von Delalic erschossen, weil er sich weigerte, die von ihm getragene serbische Flagge abzugeben. Nach diesem Mord kam es in Bosnien zu ersten ethnisch motivierten Gewalttaten. In Sarajevo wurden nach der Ermordung von Gardovic erste Barrikaden errichtet. The international community’s policy of ’supervised independence’ is looking ever more untenable

Under the “supervised independence” obtained in February 2008, Kosovo is restless again. The institutional architecture that oversees the Republic of Kosovo – an international civilian representative (ICR), the EU rule-of-law mission (Eulex), and the UN mission (Unmik) – always looked delicate. It is now beginning to crack.

For the first time since March 2004 the deep-seated public disaffection for the international presence in Kosovo is coming to the surface. Five years ago violent riots redirected the escalating Albanian frustration with the UN protectorate against the Serb minority. Then as now, officials misread early signs of tension.

Last week the Vetevendosje (Self-determination) movement damaged several Eulex cars. The spark for this action was a “protocol on police co-operation” signed by Serbia and Eulex. Eulex badly needed the agreement. It was supposed to establish the rule of law and public order. Instead it has faced local Serbs’ violent obstruction in the northern region of Kosovo, and has done neither. Kosovo government officials did not appreciate what they believe is a breach of sovereignty. It did not help that the Serbian minister for Kosovo, Goran Bogdanovic, said in an interview that the protocol is evidence that Kosovo is Serbia.

It is very worrisome that a movement such as Self-determination, not so long ago committed to peaceful tactics of protest, has now embraced violence. More worrisome is that most Albanians who wholeheartedly condemned Self-determination’s actions share the same deep contempt for the international presence in Kosovo. They see it as arbitrary and undemocratic. They have a point.

Der wird eines Tages direkt in den Himmel auffahren.» Das waren die spontanen Reaktionen zweier deutscher Verleger, denen ich meine Absicht vortrug, ein Buch über den «Literaturpapst» zu schreiben. Kein Zweifel: Der Literaturkritiker Marcel Reich-Ranicki ist mehr als nur eine «Ikone des Feuilletons», zu der Bundeskanzlerin Merkel ihn erklärt hat. Die halbwegs säkularisierten Deutschen bringen Reich-Ranicki inzwischen eine fast schon religiöse Verehrung entgegen. Sie treten dem Kritiker weit unkritischer gegenüber als dem «echten» Papst Benedikt XVI.

So ist die polnische Seite seines Lebens bis heute die unterbelichtete. Dass die Mitglieder der Familie Reich-Ranicki bis heute überwiegend Polnisch miteinander sprechen, erfahren wir aus seiner Autobiografie nicht. Die polnischen Kollegen, Freunde und Gegner erscheinen uns nur schemenhaft, selbst wenn sie auf Fotos jener Zeit neben ihm stehen. Diese Figuren zum Sprechen zu bringen, das Leben einer Jahrhundertgestalt in seinen Kontext zu setzen und dabei ein Stück europäischer Geschichte zu erzählen: Das war meine Aufgabe.

Reich-Ranicki hat in seinem Leben Schlimmes durchgemacht und bei schlimmen Dingen mitgemacht. 1940 wird Reich Insasse des Warschauer Gettos. Als ein junger Soldat aus Berlin Juden zur Zwangsarbeit treibt, verwickelt ihn Reich in ein Gespräch über Fussball, worauf er vorzeitig vom Arbeitseinsatz entlassen wird. Auch das ein Weg zum Überleben, den er später noch öfter beschreiten sollte: Er sucht und findet den Kontakt zu den jeweils Mächtigen. Reichs Überlebensstrategie war, in der (von den Besatzern eingesetzten) Getto-Verwaltung zu arbeiten, dem Judenrat.

Als zwei Jahre später die Vernichtung beginnt, flieht das Ehepaar Reich Anfang 1943 aus dem Getto und findet Unterschlupf im erwähnten Häuschen der Familie Gawin. Ende 1944 meldet sich Reich bei den neuen polnischen Streitkräften zum Dienst und ist wenig später Mitarbeiter des «Ministeriums für öffentliche Sicherheit», das die ungeteilte Herrschaft der Kommunisten aufrichten soll. Reich und seine Frau werden bei der Postzensur eingesetzt.

EU’s Feith criticises Kosovo parliament

PRISTINA, Kosovo — EU Special Representative Pieter Feith criticised lawmakers’ efforts in his report to the European Parliament on Tuesday (September 1st). Feith said parliament has failed in its job as a government watchdog. According to him, although parliament has remained committed to implementing reforms and building local institutions, it must become more involved in decision-making, as well as improve its oversight of the government’s performance. Feith added that authorities in Kosovo need to ensure that EULEX can continue its mission under the best possible circumstances. As for achievements, Feith mentioned Kosovo’s membership in the IMF, the World Bank, and the establishment of a Constitutional Court. BRUSSELS, Belgium — The 27 EU member states support the work of EULEX and its planned signing of a protocol on police co-operation with Serbia. They have agreed that consultations on the matter should continue in order to find an appropriate solution, local media reported on Tuesday (September 1st). During a meeting with representatives of EU member states, the EU Political and Security Committee backed the signing of the document with Belgrade, despite strong opposition from Pristina. EULEX spokesperson Karin Limdal described the technical arrangement as “very important for finding ways to fight organised crime, which will be beneficial to all in Kosovo”.

In other news Tuesday, former UN envoy in the Kosovo status talks Martti Ahtisaari urged the EU to make recognition of Kosovo’s independence a precondition for Serbia’s EU bid, local media reported. Britisches Chemie Unternehmen beginnt mit Produktion in Mazedonien

Johnson Matthey (britisches Chemikalien-Unternehmen im Bereich Katalyse, Edelmetalle, feine Chemikalien) wird in der mazedonischen Wirtschaftszone „Bunardzik” die Produktion im August aufnehmen. Wie das Unternehmen meldet, ist der Aufbau des Werkes in Mazedonien vollendet und bis spätestens Ende August soll die Katalysator-Produktion anlaufen.
Die Anfangsinvestition beträgt ca. 50 Mio. Euro. Dabei sollen 200 neue Stellen entstehen. Geplant ist der Ausbau auf ca. 700 Mitarbeiter und zusätzlichen Investitionen in Höhe von 150 Mio. Euro.

KRAGUJEVAC — Zastava Elektro factory from Rača, near Kragujevac, in central Serbia, will be given to its workers to manage. At the same time, the company’s “future status” will depend on an agreement with the Ministry of Economy, reports said this Wednesday. The leader of the Zastava Elektro strikers, Slobodan Gajić, commented by saying that the deal was struck with mediation from First Deputy PM Ivica Dačić, who received assurances that the owner will “return the factory to its workers”. Dačić – who is also interior minister and leader of the ruling Socialists (SPS) – was given numerous documents, Gajić said, that pointed out to abuses during the company’s privatization. “Faced with the facts, the owners had no other choice but to return the factory to the workers,” said he. In 2006, Zastava Elektro was bought by a consortium headed by Ranko Dejanović, the husband of Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović, who is also a ranking SPS official. Dejanović acquired the factory for RSD 2.7mn and was obligated to invest another RSD 26mn. As they protested in Belgrade last month – after previously being on strike for six months – the workers claimed that the new owner never saw to that obligation, and that he instead sent a tampered auditing report to the Privatization Agency as proof that the contractual obligations had been met.
