Ipko Net Welcomes The Albright Group, Madeleine K. Albright as Special Adviser to the Board

Prishtina, April 12, 2004 – The Albright Group and Madeleine K. Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State, will serve as special Adviser to the Chairman of the Board of Ipko Net, the company announced today.
Dr. Albright and The Albright Group will advise the Chairman on Ipko Net’s domestic business and international artnerships. Ipko Net plans to expand the range of services it offers in Kosovo and will also seek opportunities throughout the region. As part of this strategy, which has been developed in consultation with The Albright Group, Ipko Net has recently entered into a joint venture with Seattle-based Western Wireless International. This joint venture will compete for the second GSM mobile license in Kosovo.
“People in Kosovo and the region need economic growth and deserve the highest quality services. Ipko Net shows what Kosovo and the region can be – innovative, successful, and able to bring strong American and international partners here,” Dr. Albright said.

Madeleine Albright Madeleine Albright

Madeleine K. Albright is a Principal of The Albright Group LLC and Chair and Principal of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Dr. Albright was the 64th Secretary of State of the United States. In 1997, she was named the first female Secretary of State and became, at that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. As Secretary of State, Dr. Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade and business, labor, and environmental standards abroad. From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Albright served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as a member of the President’s Cabinet. She is the first Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She chairs both the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and the Pew Global Attitudes Project and serves as president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Albright co-chairs the UNDP’s Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Board of Trustees for the Aspen Institute and the Board of Directors of the Center for a New American Security. Dr. Albright earned a B.A. with Honors from Wellesley College, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Columbia University’s Department of Public Law and Government, as well as a Certificate from its Russian Institute. Dr. Albright is the author of three New York Times best sellers. Her autobiography, Madam Secretary was published in 2003. In 2006, Dr. Albright published The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God, and World Affairs. Her latest book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America’s Reputation and Leadership was published in January 2008.

Suzy George Suzanne George

Suzanne A. George brings more than 15 years experience in strategic project management focusing on operations and resource allocation to her role as a Principal of The Albright Group LLC and as a Principal of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Ms. George manages an extensive portfolio, including market entry strategy, business development, contract negotiations, operational execution, and financial oversight. Ms. George works to bring clients together and leverage them by broadening access to new forums and opinion leaders, generating the synergy necessary to maximize the strengths of the firm. She served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of State during the Clinton Administration with responsibility for management and coordination of travel and meetings in over 100 countries for Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Ms. George also served as a liaison to the White House and other Cabinet agencies for the Secretary of State. She earned a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School.

James OBrien Jame OBrien

James C. O’Brien brings to his role as a Principal of The Albright Group LLC and of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets, nearly twenty years of high-level experience working with international businesses, governments and nongovernmental organizations. Mr. O’Brien is a seasoned international negotiator, advising clients in transitional states around the world, including Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He works with clients on portfolios across a broad public-private spectrum, including consumer goods, health, entertainment, environment, and finance. He has successfully helped clients locate strategic partners with access to markets, secure contracts, expand market share, and resolve regulatory and legal disputes. Mr. O’Brien served as special presidential envoy for the Balkans, as Senior Adviser to the Secretary of State, and as Principal Deputy Director of Policy Planning. He was responsible for U.S. diplomatic, economic, and security policy in southeastern Europe and was charged with post-conflict planning and ensuring that the Department’s priorities and its $23 billion budget were aligned. He earned a B.A. from Macalester College, a Master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Wendy Sherman Wendy Sherman

Wendy R. Sherman brings extensive public and private sector executive-level management experience to her role as a Principal of The Albright Group LLC and of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Ambassador Sherman served as Counselor and chief troubleshooter for the State Department, as well as Special Advisor to President Clinton and Policy Coordinator on North Korea. She leverages her experience as a senior-level diplomat and her expertise in foreign relations to help clients – including businesses and nongovernmental organizations – locate partnership opportunities, gain competitive advantage in the marketplace, and resolve regulatory and political disputes throughout the world. A seasoned strategist and organizer, she is skilled at engaging stakeholders and building broad coalitions. Her diverse client portfolio includes a particular focus on Asia, the Middle East, and Russia. Ambassador Sherman is a recognized expert on national security issues and serves as a frequent analyst in major news outlets. She was appointed by Congressional Leadership to serve on the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism. She serves on the Board of Directors of Oxfam America and the Board of Advisors for the Center for a New American Security and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group. Harry Broadman Harry Broadman

Harry G. Broadman brings extensive hands-on experience and strategic insight on a broad array of international business and economic policy matters to his position as Managing Director of The Albright Group and Chief Economist of Albright Capital Management LLC , an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Dr. Broadman is globally recognized as an expert on foreign investment and trade, corporate governance, antitrust and regulation, and enterprise restructuring pertaining to OECD and developing countries, especially China, Russia, India and Africa. He draws on more than 25 years of senior positions in the private sector, international financial institutions, government, think tanks and academia. Most recently, Dr. Broadman held a variety of high-level appointments at the World Bank in East Asia; Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union; and Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining the World Bank, he served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative and on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS). Earlier, Dr. Broadman served as Chief of Staff and Senior Economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Chief Economist of the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs. Prior to his government service, he worked at the Rand Corporation; Resources for the Future, Inc.; and the Brookings Institution. He has taught on the faculties of Harvard University and the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Broadman received an A.B. in economics and history from Brown University and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Joschka Fischer Joschka Fischer

Joschka Fischer, Senior Strategic Counsel to The Albright Group LLC and Strategic Consultant to Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets, was German foreign minister and vice chancellor from 1998 to 2005. He was the second longest serving foreign minister in German post-war history. During his tenure, Minister Fischer supported the first German active military mission since the Second World War, with Germany’s involvement in Kosovo, and supported German troops joining the NATO mission in Afghanistan. Joschka Fisher was one of the most influential leaders of the German Green movement and became the first-ever Green Party minister of the environment and energy and held the additional portfolios of federal affairs and deputy minister president. In 1994, Joschka Fischer became co-chairman of the Green Party’s federal parliamentary faction. Joschka Fischer was a guest professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University from 2006-2007. He currently serves on the board of directors of the International Crisis Group and the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Imprisoned Spy and His Son Indicted on Charges of Acting as Russian Agents and Money Laundering

A federal indictment was unsealed today in U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon charging Harold James Nicholson, 58, of Sheridan, Oregon, and Nathaniel James Nicholson, 24, of Eugene, Oregon, with two counts of Conspiracy, one count of Acting as Agents of a Foreign Government, and four counts of Money Laundering.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear today at 1:30 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Janice M. Stewart for arraignment on the indictment. The maximum penalty for the substantive charge of acting as an agent of a foreign government is ten years imprisonment, while the maximum penalty for conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government is five years imprisonment. Each money laundering count, including the money laundering conspiracy, carries a maximum of twenty years imprisonment. The indictment also seeks forfeiture of funds provided to Nathaniel Nicholson by the Russian Federation, which the indictment alleges are the proceeds of his father’s past espionage activities.

Der Chef der Internationalen Atomenergieorganisation IAEO (International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei sagte am Montag in einem cnn-Interview, dass die Welt nicht übertreiben sollte in ihrer Anklage gegen den Iran bezüglich des Programms zur Anreicherung von Uran.

Dies führe zu einer Bedrohung der Stabilität  in der Region. Damit bezieht er sich hauptsächlich an die Adresse der USA und Israel: „ There is a concern, but don’t hype the concern.“
Bezogen auf Japan, Brasilien und Argentinien, die ebenfalls Programme zur Urananreicherung durchführen, sagte er, dass einige andere Staaten auch Programme zur Urananreicherung haben und die Welt setzt keinen Fuss hinein. Also warum setzen wir unseren Fuss in den Iran wegen seiner Urananreicherung?
„Many other countries are enriching uranium and the world is not making a fuss about it. So why are we making a fuss about Iran and its nuclear enrichment.“
Er fügte hinzu, dass die umfangreiche Besorgnis über die nuklearen Aktivitäten daher rühren, dass der Iran als gefährlich dargestellt wird, dass dies aber jeder realen Grundlage entbehre. Die Iraner werden als „Achse des Bösen“ bezeichnet. Dort würde mit Hilfe von Geld ein Regimewechsel versucht und sie sind von Nuklearwaffen besitzenden Ländern und US-Truppen umgeben. ElBaradei erinnerte an die Verschwörung  von 1953 der Eisenhower-Administration zum Sturz der demokratisch gewählten Regierung und des Premierministers  Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh.

In seiner Regierungszeit versuchte Mossadegh eine Reihe sozialistisch orientierter Reformen umzusetzen; darunter eine Landreform, die das Jahrhunderte alte Feudalsystem beendete und durch kollektive Landwirtschaftsbetriebe und staatlichen Grundbesitz ersetzte.
Die Veränderungen im Iran zogen nun die Aufmerksamkeit der US-Regierung auf das Land. Die Vereinigten Staaten sahen durch die Gefahr einer Einflussnahme der Sowjetunion über die Tudeh-Partei, wie auch durch die Verstaatlichungen, ihre Interessen gefährdet.
Am 4. April 1953 billigte der CIA-Direktor Allen W. Dulles ein Budget von einer Million US-Dollar, die dazu verwendet werden sollten, Mossadegh zu stürzen (“in any way that would bring about the fall of Mossadegh”). Mit dieser Geheimdienstoperation Operation Ajax gelang es der CIA in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Schah, monarchistischen und klerikalen Gruppen, geführt vom General im Ruhestand Fazlollah Zahedi, am 19. August 1953 Ministerpräsident Mossadegh aus dem Amt zu entfernen. Auf Drängen der CIA hatte der Schah nach langem Zögern am 13. August eingewilligt, per Dekret den früheren Senator und Innenminister sowie Armee-General Fazlollah Zahedi zum neuen Ministerpräsidenten zu ernennen.
